If you are a Twitter fan and have an iPhone, you have many options when it comes to applications. I think I have every one of them on my own personal iPhone. Some are free, others cost a little but all seem to do something a little different. In my opinion, the best thing to do is to determine what you plan to use Twitter for to determine which app is best for you.
TwitterFon
This is probably the best all around free app for Twitter. One thing I really like about this app is that new unread tweets are highlighted in a pale blue. Also has a nice search function. Tweets can be viewed in chat style, just like iPhone text messages. You can also add a picture to TwitPic directly from the program. Awesome!
Twittervision
I rank this app the most unusual. It shows real-time posts from around the world on a map. See something you find interesting, touch it and get more info. This is not meant to be your fulltime Twitter application but gives you an idea of how global Twitter has become. Coolest! (And did I mention FREE???)
Tweetie
Use the Twitter app that Demi Moore uses. This one does come with a price ($2.99) but is slightly better than TwitterFon. Again, this one makes use of chat style tweets. Also direct to TwitPic option and has the ability to handle multiple Twitter accounts and makes use of GPS by showing nearby Tweeters. Best feature - touch a tweet and hyperlinks appear in blue font. Touch the blue type and you are taken directly to the linked website. Same is true for @replies. Way cool!
Twinkle
Another free app. Good thing it is free because this app is not very twitter friendly. The best thing this app has going for it - the background. Looks like a night sky. Chat style and touchable links but does not make replying easy. Also shows tweeters nearby. But its limitations cause this app to be the least desirable.
Twitterrific
A nice free app but this has one bad thing going for it - advertising!!!! Layout is nice and trendy but you cannot see @ replies or direct messages. Replying is probably the easiest from this app but the negatives outweigh the positives.
Twitterlator Pro
Best all around Twitter app!! This is the one I use more than any other. Yes it does cost $$ but it has more features than the free Twitterlator app. With the other apps previously mentioned, I had a very difficult time trying to figure out how to add those pesky Tiny Urls (shortened hyperlinks). Twitterlator makes it a breeze and you don't have to be in the app to tweet a link. It can be directly accomplished from Safari - awesome!! You also now have the ability to see all replies to a tweet - very useful when trying to figure out what Ashton or MC Hammer is talking about.
My best advice - try them all!!! Since most of them are free you have nothing to lose. If you don't like them, delete them. There is a Twitter app out there for everyone.
